Description The Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy, Inc. (AURA) operates several observatory centers (including the National Optical Astronomy Observatory, the National Solar Observatory, The Large Synoptic Survey Telescope and the Gemini Observatory) in the United States and Chile under a cooperative agreement with the National Science Foundation.

Summary of Position:
The National Optical Astronomy Observatory invites applications for a postdoctoral Research Associate. The Research Associate will work with Drs. Joan Najita (NOAO) and Colette Salyk (Vassar College) on several investigations related to understanding how volatiles and organics are processed in protoplanetary disks and how these can be used as diagnostics of the planet formation status of disks. The investigations will involve the use of data to be obtained with ALMA, VLT, Gemini, and SOFIA, as well as archival data from Herschel and Spitzer and other data already in hand. The position is funded for a period of one year (with a possible extension to two years, dependent on funding) through a NASA grant to study “Earths in Other Solar Systems” (http://eos-nexus.org/).

Job Responsibilities:
Collaborative research, including the design and execution of observing programs, data reduction, analysis, and dissemination of results.
Requirements

Applicants must have received a PhD in astrophysics (or a related discipline) before taking up the position. Expertise in protoplanetary disks, infrared spectroscopy, or disk chemistry is a plus.

The position is available from 1 September 2017, although the starting date is flexible.
