||Electric Engineer for Facilities Operations Department, of NOAO-South
NOAO-South is inviting applications for the position of Electrical Engineer (EE) in the Facilities Operations Department of NOAO-South. We are looking for a hands-on engineer with at least 5 years experience in medium and low voltage power equipment/distribution
systems. The EE will be responsible for the maintenance, upgrade and modernization of the shared medium and low-tension electrical infrastructure at the AURA Observatory in Chile, including the installations in La Serena, and on Cerro Tololo and Cerro Pachón.
He/she will lead a small group of technicians & electricians within the NOAO-South Facilities Operations Group.
The EE will lead efforts designing, testing and maintaining electrical distribution, electric control systems, machinery and equipment, including the electro-mechanical systems associated with water supply systems. He/she will be responsible for handling electrical
problems or electrical engineering issues in buildings, work sites or other locations. He/she will plan, design, and manage projects to improve and modernize this infrastructure in order to keep the electrical power distribution system upgraded, incorporating
new technologies, will develop the maintenance plans needed to ensure reliable operation and supervise the work of technicians, and external contractors, in the proper execution of these plans, and will develop and update plans to accommodate the future power
distribution needs of the observatory as appropriate.
The EE will work along with the staff responsible for operation of the telescopes on Cerro Tololo and Cerro Pachón in the diagnosis and repair of problems, and in the development of improvement projects, for electrical equipment associated with the various
telescopes and their instrumentation when requested by the these programs.
The EE and his/her group are also responsible for the radio communication system for communication on and with the mountain tops, as well as alarm and HVAC systems in the buildings operated and maintained by the department.

Electric Engineer (Ingeniero Civil Electrico) with 5 years of experience (minimum).
Proven experience in direct / hands on field work, (not limited to supervising contractors), as well as experience in documentation and developing maintenance plans.
Self-motivated and being a self-learner.
Good knowledge of spoken and written English is desirable.
Capable of working in the field in adverse weather conditions.

manipulate those tools and mechanisms; c) push, shove, pull or otherwise safely and efficiently manipulate tools or mechanisms; d) lift, hold, maneuver, objects of 50 lbs. or more; e) maintain balance while performing work; f) remove parts, systems, tools
of 50 lbs. or more;
