The Archive Sciences Branch in the Operations and Engineering Division (OED) is seeking a Software Test Engineer to work in the multi-mission archive at the STScI, ensuring that the archive data and meta-data are accurate, easily found, clearly presented and
delivered to the user. The software test engineer in this role will test multiple user interfaces, which have a number of tools and search capabilities to allow the user to search, examine, and select data. The software test engineer will be responsible for
reviewing software requirements, creating of test cases, executing tests (both manual and automated), reporting defects/bugs, and preparing test plans, procedures and reports. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential.
||Qualified candidates must have Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or a technically related field.
Candidates with experience with any of the following skills and testing methodologies are preferred:
•Data and database testing. This includes ensuring proper delivery, ingest and propagation of the data and consistency and quality assurance in the application layer that uses the database. Knowledge of relational databases and SQL strongly preferred.
•Web based interfaces and browser/OS compatibility testing. Experience with automated software testing packages is a plus.
•Functionality testing for the user interface and the underlying services of the system as a whole.
•Performance and load testing for latency, concurrency, and availability.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential.
Substitution of additional relevant education or experience for the stated qualification may be considered.
This position requires US Citizenship or Permanent Residence in order to meet ITAR requirements.
