salaries, and a stimulating work environment. MAST is seeking two (2) Archive Scientists to provide scientific, technical and computational expertise to support Hubble Space Telescope (HST) archive users and to improve the MAST Archive.
The successful candidates will support archive projects to enhance the scientific utilization of HST and MAST data and meta-data through existing and future datamining techniques and science domain interfaces. The successful candidates will provide user support
and expertise for HST archive users.
||Familiarity and experience with one or more of the following are desired:
- HST instrumentation and data calibration and processing
- Procedure writing and maintenance
- Analysis and understanding of mission requirements
- Relevant software and programming languages (e.g. Python, IDL)
- Experience using ground- or space based astronomical archive for research
This position requires a PhD in Astronomy, Physics, or a related field. Candidates should have 5 or more years of experience working with astronomical data (images or spectra), catalogs, space-based observing, and/or astronomical data analysis. The starting
position and salary are commensurate with education and experience.
The ideal candidate will possess strong verbal and written communication skills, work with minimum supervision, be self-motivated, and interact well with colleagues and outside groups.
This position requires US Citizenship or Permanent Residence to meet ITAR requirements.
This position includes the option to buy back up to 50% of your FTE for personal research through the use of any approved external funding or grants you may receive.
