Hubble Space Telescope (HST) and the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST), scheduled to launch in Spring 2019.
As an Archive Scientist, you will work as part of an interdisciplinary team committed to support and maintain the data calibration pipelines and data archives for new and archival data from STScI’s active missions. You will also provide user support and expertise
for archive users, astronomers at STScI and from around the world.
||Familiarity and experience with one or more of the following is desired:
• HST data calibration and processing
• Satellite and/or astronomical observatory operations
• Procedure writing and maintenance
• Software and programming languages, such as HTML5, MS SQL Server, Python, Linux, or related technologies
• Using ground or space-based astronomical archives for research
• Working with the scientific community
This position requires US Citizenship or Permanent Residence to meet ITAR requirements.
This position requires a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Astronomy, Planetary Science, Physics, or a related field. Advanced degrees are not required, but are considered a plus. The starting position and salary are commensurate with education and experience.
We are considering candidates with post-Bachelor’s experience in an astronomical research or observatory/support function in areas related to astronomical data analysis (imaging or spectroscopy), astronomical archives, and/or space-based observing. Successful
