Title Technical Sales Manager- S.B. Foot Tanning

Description S.B. Foot Tanning, part of Red Wing Shoe Company and a world leader in the leather industry for more than 100 years, is seeking a Technical Sales Manager.

The Technical Sales Manager is responsible for planning and executing leather sales activities and for assisting with the technical aspects involved with producing leather. Sales responsibilities include, but are not limited to customer relationship management, sales process management, leather pricing, sales forecasting, financial performance, and development/execution of strategy to drive business growth. Technical responsibilities include assisting with materials analysis, leather manufacturing process improvements, education and training of employees, and research and development of leather and leather products.

• Customer relations and leather/leather product sales
• Increase leather sales/market share
• Leather manufacturing technical leadership
• Leather research and development leadership
• Material procurement consultation
• People and process technical development

• Maintain a safe and healthy work environment by promoting employee ownership of policies and procedures and by adhering to and enforcing company policies, procedures and regulatory requirements.
• Provide internal and external customer service consistent with quality and service expectations of the company and the customers, including concise and timely communications with both internal and external customers.
• Develop sales programs and forecasts, and execute sales plans for all leathers to help ensure timely fulfillment of customer needs while maintaining reasonable inventory levels.
• Achieve financial goals for top line sales and revenue growth, market share, and bottom-line profitability by preparing an annual sales budget, collaborate on leather pricing, scheduling expenditures, analyzing variances, and initiating corrective actions.
• Assure product is sold through the appropriate distribution channels and guardrails are upheld.
• Assure compliance with and drive improvement/innovation of selling processes.
• Collaborate with product development, manufacturing, quality and business services to develop, produce and market leather developments/innovations and products that meet quality and cost expectations.
• Support continuous improvement and lean planning, efforts and events, and implementation of practices and procedures to improve manufacturing performance.
• Safeguard the assets of the Company, treating all technical developments, operational data, information on salaries and wages, customer lists, and similar data as required.
• Comply with all governmental laws and regulations which pertain to the responsibilities of the position.
• Empower all employees through effective communication, coaching, training, and enforcement of company policies and procedures.
• Assure adequate training and upgrading of knowledge, skills and abilities, utilizing of external vendors and workshops as appropriate.
• Enhance Company knowledge and brand by establishing and cultivating a strong industry network and developing personal and team capabilities.
• Utilize statistical information and data to support decision-making and drive process improvements.
• Uphold S.B Foot Tanning Company’s core values and represent the company in a professional manner.
• Obtain necessary information by maintaining knowledge of Red Wing Shoe Company’s electronic communication software.
• Complete other duties as assigned from time to time.

Internal: S.B. Foot Tanning Company and Twin City Tanning Company employees. Associated Red Wing Shoe Company manufacturing, maintenance, engineering, technical, product development, quality, transportation, logistics, business/information technology, human resources, accounting and finance personnel.
External: Leather product customers, vendors, contractors, transportation companies, governmental agencies.

• Graduate of a leather tanning school or leather chemistry school and 10 years progressive leather manufacturing experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Sales leadership experience; demonstrated general management acumen and experience; demonstrated success working within complex matrix enterprise.

Must have an active passport

• Master’s degree

• Frequent travel up to 50% (primarily domestic but also international)
• Ability to multi-task and handle stressful situations
• Ability to work safely in a wet manufacturing environment
• Ability to climb steps
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally
