Accounts Payable Manager

Try this on for size: We are looking for an Account Payable Manager to be responsible for planning, organizing, and directing the accounts payable function including related month end close activities. Manage and direct the accounts payable activities in support of the Company’s overall fiscal management goals and objectives. Safeguard company assets by ensuring accounts are reconciled, and accounts payable activities are in compliance of policies and procedures.
Transaction Processing – Plan, schedule and direct day-to-day accounts payable transaction processes. Ensure all payments are in accordance with company policy and approved signatory authority. Manage and report on key departmental metrics.
Month End Close – Oversee and perform month end close activities including closing the A/P sub-ledger, identifying and recording month end accruals, tracking to close schedule, performing and reviewing account reconciliations, and analyzing variances. Complete processes in accordance with internal controls and GAAP.
Organizational Management – Manage a team of six employees. Assess team performance including knowledge, skills, and abilities. Identify opportunities for improvement and training, and provide recommendations for identified needs.
Travel & Expense – Oversee the administration, monitoring, auditing, and reporting of travel expenses including procurement card activity.
Business & System Support –Perform an assessment of accounts payable roles and responsibilities, document processes and standard operating procedures, provide recommendations for streamlining accounting processes, improving internal controls, and eliminating non-value added work including the identification and evaluation of business requirements for automation. Review existing policies and procedures and identify opportunities to simplify, standardize, and ensure Company assets are protected. Present findings and recommendations to leadership.
Support Other Areas of Finance – Support other accounting staff through communication, coordination, training and application of accounts payable policies and procedures.
Annual Audit - Participate in the annual financial audit by preparing schedules that support G/L balances for assigned areas and providing additional information as required.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) in accounting or finance from an accredited college or university with three to seven years of Accounts Payable experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of accounting concepts and principles (including GAAP); proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word;
proven analytical and problem solving skills; attention to detail; effective written, verbal, and interpersonal skills;
ability to learn new applications and technology; demonstrated ability to manage teams and develop employees.
ERP system experience and advanced Excel skills preferred.
