We are looking for a Senior Accountant to be responsible for maintaining and producing accurate and timely financial reports, records, and general ledgers in accordance with US GAAP for Red Wing Shoe Company retail stores. As a key member of the Retail General Ledger team, this position will partner with Corporate Accounting and the Retail Financial Services team to ensure financial and business processes and controls are performing as designed for both company and dealer owned stores. Responsibilities include month end close process, perform and review monthly reconciliations, and assist with the annual audit for retail accounting.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Performs month end close activities for company owned retail stores including journal entry processing and review, recording month end accruals, and tracking to close schedule. Assists with financial statement review, variance analysis, and publishing of retail financial reports. Performs accounting in compliance with internal controls and US GAAP.
• Oversees and reviews financial accounting records for dealership stores. Records and approves monthly journal entries, and reviews and distributes financial reports.
• Performs complex reconciliations and researches reconciling differences and errors on a timely basis. Initiates and confirms resolution of reconciling items to maintain the completeness and accuracy of retail financial records.
• Develops and maintains current knowledge of the retail service fee agreements, and store and truck commission calculations. Ensures monthly accounting service fees are accurate and invoiced on a timely basis, and commissions are calculated, reviewed, and submitted within prescribed deadlines.
• Interacts with the Retail Financial Servcies team on point-of-sale (POS) transaction issues and store processing errors. Identifies and collaborates with team on development and training opportunities.
• Communicates with corresponding company owned or dealer owned store managers, store owners, store bookkeepers and, if applicable, external CPAs regarding monthly and annual financial results, general ledgers, and record keeping.
• Participates cross-functionally with Retail Operations, Customer Experience, Business Technology, Human Resources and other finance departments on projects delivering business unit growth, continuous improvement, and compliance. Partners with the retail organization to understand business initiatives and their respective impact to accounting and controls.
• Assists with the annual financial audit for US company owned retail stores. Ensures audit preparedness for financial records, processes and controls. Coordinates audit requests and ensures deliverables are provided within the requested time frame.

Requirements EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND REQUIRED COMPETENCIES
• Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) in Accounting from an accredited four-year college or university and three to five years related experience/training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
• CPA or CMA and public accounting experience preferred
• Experience and understanding of retail store operation and accounting transactions including point-of-sale systems is preferred
• Established record of improvement through process improvement methodologies which result in organizational efficiencies
• Experience with inventory, payroll, general ledger, accounts receivable and accounts payable functions

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
• Strong knowledge of US GAAP; retail experience preferred.
• Advanced computer skills in Excel, Word and other Microsoft Suite tools.
• Experience with accounting and financial reporting systems, such as ERP systems and Retail transaction platforms.
• Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
• Active listening skills.
• Excellent organizational skills, ability to multi-task, and the ability to work well in a team.
• Demonstrated analytical, quantitative, and problem solving skills.
• Ability to learn and use multiple systems and applications.
• Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills.
