We are looking for a Retail Staff Accountant to be responsible for providing support in preparing, developing, and maintaining accurate and timely financial reports, records and general ledgers in accordance with US GAAP for Red Wing Shoe Company retail stores. The Staff Accountant responsibilities include processing general ledger journal entries; preforming monthly reconciliations; and reviewing monthly operating expenses and trends.

• Performs reconciliations of accounting and financial records and systems. Researches reconciling differences and errors, and processes correcting journal entries to maintain accurate financial records. Ensures reconciliations are timely, complete, and accurate, and reconciling items are researched, supported, and cleared in a timely manner.
• Prepares financial accounting records for dealership stores. Records and posts monthly journal entries into general ledger system, and prepares and distributes financial reports to dealer owners.
• Interacts with the Retail Accounting Store Support Team on point-of-sale (POS) transaction issues, store processing errors, and outstanding reconciling items. Assists team in identifying development and training opportunities.
• Communicates with corresponding company owned or dealer owned store managers, store owners, store bookkeepers and, if applicable, external CPAs regarding monthly and annual financial results, general ledgers and record keeping.
• Supports retail accounting projects and processes within the department. Interacts with the retail organization to understand business initiatives and their respective impact to accounting and controls.

• Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) in Accounting from a four-year college or university and two to five years related experience/training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• CPA or CMA and public accounting experience preferred.
• Experience and understanding of retail store operations and accounting transactions including point-of-sale systems is preferred.
• Experience with inventory, payroll, general ledger, accounts receivable and accounts payable functions.
• Experience with accounting and financial reporting systems, such as ERP systems and Retail transaction platforms is preferred.

• Fundamental knowledge of US GAAP and accounting practices; retail experience preferred.
• Advanced computer skills in Excel, Word and other Microsoft Suite tools.
• Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
• Active listening skills.
• Excellent organizational skills, ability to multi-task, and the ability to work well in a team.
• Demonstrated analytical, quantitative, and problem solving skills.
• Ability to learn and use multiple systems and applications.
• Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills.
