Job Summary

The Database Developer & Analyst is responsible for the performance, integrity, usability, and security of all databases supporting Continuous Improvement (CI) initiatives with regard to both-back end and front-end functionality. This position provides technical expertise and applies sound practices for all Microsoft SQL and/or Access CI databases, administers Microsoft SQL database, develops databases in pursuit of strategic initiatives, and performs data analysis, reporting, and business intelligence.

Essential Functions       

Key Duties/Responsibilities/Accountabilities

  • Develops unique coding solutions involving Microsoft Excel, Access, and/or SQL as needed to support key CI initiatives.
  • Ensures performance, integrity, and security of the CI databases including ensuring consistency in data across departments, applying effective naming conventions, ensuring data within the database is clearly defined, and ensuring data is in a form that suits the needs of users.
  • Coordinates and obtains appropriate approval to work on technical development of or any work/maintenance done on all other systems, tools, and SQL databases within the CI department.
  • Acts as primary support for database issues, trouble shooting, and problem analysis for all platforms and related applications for CI department.
  • Determines structural requirements by analyzing operations, applications, and programming.
  • Develops database solutions by designing proposed systems and defining database structure and capabilities.
  • Maintains database maintenance, determines optimum parameters, integrates existing systems, and installs new releases.
  • Provides quality assurance testing of all technical aspects of CI databases.
  • Primary support for report writing across all CI databases.
  • Communicates as needed within Operations staff to ensure usability and functionality.
  • Ability to act as administrator of all systems/database for which this position is responsible.
  • Provides collaboration on CI projects to leverage the use of technology and databases to drive performance and achieve efficiencies.
  • Follows appropriate design standards, methods, and tools and ensures they are applied effectively.
  • Highly optimizes the performance of several significant spreadsheet applications.

Requirements

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Business Administration, or closely related field
  • 1 years’ experience or equivalent combination of college degree and/or work experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Advanced MS Excel (V lookups, pivot tables, formulas, macros, etc.) and Access experience and strong VBA coding capability
  • Experience with MySQL and MSSSQL
  • Ability to facilitate new processes and implement new formulas to help improve systems in place
  • Strong experience in manipulating data, scrubbing data, and ensuring compliance
  • Experience with MySQL and MSSSQL

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Business
  • Administration, or closely related field
  • 5 years’ experience
  • Ability to apply basic statistics to solve business problems
  • Lean Green Belt Certification or Continuous Improvement related experience

 

Environment and Cognitive/Physical Demands

  • Office Environment
  • Ability to read, hear, speak, keyboard, reason, communicate effectively and problem solve
  • Requires prolonged sitting and telephone usage
  • Requires the use of office equipment such as computer terminals, telephones, copiers and printers
  • Infrequent lifting up to 15 pounds
  • Infrequent stooping
