Description Summary The Tool Grinder Trainee is responsible to learn how to maintain and sharpen all Shop Tooling by the use of various types of Grinding Machines and the required accessories. This individual must be able to read and somewhat comprehend various types of blueprints. This individual will be trained by Tool room personnel and also by the Tool room Supervisor. This individual must also learn the operation of various micrometers, calipers, fixed gauges and other measuring equipment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities to which competency will be measured include the following:

1. Learning the operation and setup of the various types of grinding machines to maintain and sharpen shop tooling.

2. Requires the ability to comprehend verbal/written instructions.

3. Requires the ability to comprehend/interpret blue prints and specifications. (May need to take a blueprint reading course.)

4. Knowledge of micrometers, calipers, fixed gauges and other measuring equipment.

5. Requires maintenance of all tool room grinding equipment including lubrication of these machines.

6. Maintain Safety and cleanliness in a prescribed manner.

7. All work subject to final inspection.

8. Must have basic Computer skills.

9. This individual must have at least Qty. 1 (0-1 inch micrometer) and Qty. 1 (0-6 inch caliper) within 3 Months.

10. This individual must also have some basic Tools: Screwdriver set, adjustable wrench, hammer, and toolbox.

11. This individual must be able to lift 30 – 40 lbs., frequently, unassisted. 70 lbs. occasionally, with or without assistance.

Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED).

Minimum 6 months related experience and/or training in performing the required duties.

Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, Blue prints and procedure manuals. Have the ability to write routine reports and correspondences. Have the ability to communicate effectively.



Mathematical Skills: Ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Have the ability to deal effectively with routine problems and situations.

Stand or walk 100% of the shift, frequent bending and lifting 30-40 lbs. frequently, unassisted. 70 lbs. occasionally, assisted or unassisted.
