Description Summary The Journeyman Tool and Die Maker is responsible for the training and setting-up for the operation of various types of machines. Must be able to read and comprehend blueprints. Under direction of management the Journeyman Tool and Die Maker will perform inspection of less experienced co-workers’ machined tools and parts by the use of micrometers, calipers fixed gauges, and any other measuring device deemed appropriate.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities to which competency will be measured include the following.
1 The instruction, operation, and set-up of various types of machines producing tooling and machined parts.
2.Requires the ability to communicate and comprehend verbal/written instruction with co-workers and management.
3.Requires ability to comprehend/interpret blueprints and specifications.
4.Must be knowledgeable of micrometers, calipers, fixed gauges, and any other types of required measuring devices.
5.Instruct and assist with setups, removal/resetting of tooling under his direct supervision.
6.Instructs and performs routing maintenance of machines including oil and lubrication.
7.Maintain cleanliness and safety in a prescribed manner.
8.Work subject to final inspection by department management.

Education and/or Experience

One year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.


Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. The ability to write routine reports and correspondence, and to speak effectively before groups of supervisors or employees of organization.


Mathematical Skills

The ability to calculate figures and amounts such as, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. The ability to apply the concepts of basic algebra and geometry.


Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
