Description

Responsible for the daily operations of the baggage handling system as well as to operate, maintain, trouble-shoot and repair the mechanical, electrical and control systems associated with the Baggage Handling System.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to - Other duties may be assigned.

- Monitor daily operations and statistics of the baggage system to determine problem areas.

- Trouble-shoot and repair all mechanical, electrical, and control components of the BHS system.

- Analyze all data from the baggage handling system to determine problems.

- Make necessary changes to the Programmable Logic Controllers to maintain and enhance the performance of the baggage handling system.

- Provide preventive maintenance services, clean, inspect, lubricate, adjust/track, troubleshooting and repair for all mechanical equipment.

- Conveyor belting, end rollers, drive rollers, snub rollers, take-up rollers, etc.

- Conveyor drive assemblies (motors, gear boxes, drive belts, V-belts etc.)

- Conveyor supports (ceiling hangers, leg supports, etc.)

- Make-up and claim devices (flat plate and sloped pallet plate).

- All HSD’s, diverters and associated equipment that direct baggage flow.

- Trouble-shoot and repair all mechanical faults

- Responsible for general cleanup of work areas.

- Provide preventive maintenance services, clean, troubleshooting and repair for all electrical/controls equipment.

- Is able to meet Station’s attendance standards.

Requirements

- 1-2 years experience, preferably in an airport or cargo environment.

- General computer knowledge, including Microsoft Office Suite.

- Excellent written and oral communications skills

- Ability to work effectively with staff, supervisors, and clients.

- Individual must be a self starter, and be able to work independently

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Associates Degree or equivalent, or one to two years experience, preferably in an airport or cargo environment, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.

Ability to write simple correspondence.

Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Possess/maintain a valid State driver’s license and other FAA Airport required identification/seals or authorizations.
