Alta Vista High School is seeking an experienced Special Education Coordinator for the 2018-2019 School Year. This is a full-time position with a great benefit package.

Requirements
•Current Arizona Special Education Certification (Cross-Categorical) required and 3+ years teaching experience preferred.
•Current DPS IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card
•Strong knowledge of the special education process and state and federal compliance requirements
•Strong knowledge of Section 504 of the ADA and federal compliance requirements

Essential Functions/Skills:

3.Design and implement special education activities and related documents that conform to federal, state and district requirements.

6.Demonstrate the ability to read, analyze, and interpret information in a variety of formats.
7.Demonstrate the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions and/or complaints.

10.Support the philosophy, policies and procedures, as well as the mission of The Leona Group and its schools.

Responsibilities:
1.Coordinate and review special education needs of incoming students as indicated on enrollment forms
2.Create and maintain a schedule for push-in / pull-out special education and related services for students.
3.Provide special education services directly to students (both inside and out of the classroom) through direct instruction, co-teaching, or assignment of para-educators
4.Create and maintain a record of special education and related services provided.
5. Maintain all special education and Section 504 documents for the assigned school(s) with 100% compliance, including Initial Referrals, MET reports, IEPs, and Section 504 plans.
6.Assist in the identification of exceptional students within the school (child find). This includes conducting vision and hearing screenings for all identified or potential exceptional students
7.Coordinate with Curriculum Coach and grade-level teachers regarding any pre-referral meetings.
8.Serve as the school’s 504 Coordinator, as assigned.
9.Maintain and report the school’s special education data to the director, as requested.
10.Act as a liaison to general education teachers to insure the proper implementation of students’ IEPs or 504 plans. This includes assisting with accommodations and modifications to curriculum, serving as a special education resource, and assisting with behavior related concerns pertaining to students with disabilities.
11.Ensure that all general education teachers know and understand classroom accommodations / modifications for the special needs students they serve.
12.Facilitate the provision of services / assessments by contracted service providers.
13.Maintain and provide teachers and administration a current special education census.
14.Perform educational and behavior assessments of students including observations, records review, communication with teachers, and formal academic or behavioral evaluations.
15.Coordinate with Curriculum Coach and grade-level teachers to monitor implementation of appropriate accommodations for students during instruction.
16.Serve as the point of contact for parents of students with special education / 504 eligibility.
17.Organize and coordinate professional development opportunities for general education teachers and staff.
18.Facilitate the special education and Section 504 evaluation/reevaluation process.
19.Create and coordinate a master schedule for annual special education and section 504 meetings.
20.Coordinate and hold all special education-related parent and team meetings
21.Be responsible for student files, including maintaining a system that monitors viewing of files and confidentiality, as well as ensuring that all files are current.
22. Support Curriculum Coach or school staff with student scheduling.
23. Participate in state monitoring, ensuring that all federal and state rules and policies are followed, when appropriate.
24. Work closely with the Curriculum Coach to compile and analyze data and make appropriate curricular decisions based on student information.
25.Respond to parent or staff concerns promptly and resolve all special education related issues.
26.Act as a resource to all staff regarding the school’s special education program and policies
27.Collaborate with administration in the development and maintenance of the school’s special education programming.
28.Collaborate with administration on all matters of discipline pertaining to students with disabilities.
29.Evaluate teacher and program personnel performance as requested by the Director of Special Education and/or School Leader
30.Perform other duties and assume additional responsibilities as may be assigned by the Director of Special Education and/or the School Leader
