| Description |
The Chief Engineer is responsible for the function and performance of the vessel systems – Diesel, Electric, Hydraulic, Pneumatic, refrigeration, etc. Reporting to the Vessel Manager and working with the Production Manager and Quality Assurance Manager to ensure the vessel produces a maximum volume of high quality product. This is a critical role and is viewed as one of the top supervisors on the vessel. The vessel engineering department is responsible for general maintenance of all vessel systems listed above as well as repairing any mechanical problems or breakdowns that may occur.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Supervise all engineering staff, maintaining consistent written documentation on employee performance, including all “End of Season” reviews and any applicable performance improvement documentation.
• Operation & maintenance of 2-stage ammonia refrigeration system and other related refrigeration machinery.
• Operation and maintenance of engine, gen set(s), pumps, air compressors, Pneumatic hoists, Hydraulic systems, seafood processing equipment, deck cranes, electric & diesel forklifts, and various vehicles.
• Ensure preventative maintenance is performed on machinery.
• Maintain logs & ensure all records are in compliance with safety, machinery repairs and improvements, as well as other regulatory subjects.
• Ensure safety of vessel personnel by overseeing the safe use of equipment and by maintaining an accident free workplace. Serve on the vessel emergency response team.
• Learn, support, and adhere to all Icicle rules, policies and practices.
• Interacts professionally with employees, visitors and guests.
• Other maintenance duties as assigned by the Vessel Manager.

| Requirements |
Skill and experience required:
• Minimum of two years’ experience in a supervisory position (within the seafood processing industry preferred).
• General maintenance & repair background is required, within the seafood industry is preferred.
• Experience and knowledge of refrigeration, 1 & 3ph. electrical wiring, motors & controls, hydraulic, pneumatic.
• Qualified candidates must have a verifiable Chief Engineer of Uninspected Fishing Industry Vessels (3000 Horsepower) USCG license or relevant equivalent.
• Satisfactory completion of a drug screen test is required.
• Prompt, reliable and predictable attendance is an essential function of the job.
• Able to work well under pressure, 12 or more hours a day, 7 days a week.
• Must be able to live and work on a vessel located in remote Alaska.
• Must be conscientious about seafood quality, good manufacturing practices, and how these practices will relate to the engineering department.
• Must be able to work with other department managers in a team like atmosphere.
• Able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.
Work Schedule:
• Ability to work in remote Alaska onboard a vessel for approximately 6-8 months out of the year. Some of this time may be spent at more than one location, depending on need. The work schedule in Alaska requires long hours, up to 16-hours per day and 7 days per week. When the vessel is not operating in Alaska, the Chief Engineer role is responsible for overseeing any repair work being done during the offseason shipyard time. During shipyard, the Chief Engineer needs to be onsite to supervise the maintenance work being performed.
Work Environment:
• Motorized processing vessels are able to maintain a year-round operation, consisting of approximately 150 - 300 employee workforce that is engaged in the production of Salmon, Cod, Pollock, fishmeal, fish oil and other related products. Processing vessels operate throughout Alaska and the location will vary depending on the season.
