Title Site Medical Specialist

Description The Site Medical Specialist will provide clinical and emergency medical treatment on a seafood processing vessel operating in Alaska. Responsible for management and coordination of health and OSHA medical regulatory compliance on the vessel and implementing a healthy work culture consistent with corporate policies and objectives. Position reports to the Vessel Manager but will interface with the Director of Safety and Compliance as well as the Sr. Claims Manager.


Duties and Responsibilities

• Administer first aid; respond to medical issues and emergencies for approx. 220 employees
• Work with all departments to maintain healthy work environment and ensure that they are followed
• Oversight of food safety practices in the Galley (vessel’s dining center).
• Maintain appropriate medical and claims-related records and reports, including:
o Appropriate medical claim forms
o Maintain site-specific OSHA 300/301 Logs
o Maintain appropriate medical-related records and reports
o Maintain medical logs for employees visiting the infirmary
• Assists with monthly and situational drug screening specimen sample collection
• Order and maintain Infirmary medical supplies
• Works with Safety Manager to oversee PPE usage and training on their use.
• Participates in emergency drills, weekly safety/health meetings and periodic room inspections
• Stays abreast of, supports, and adheres to all Icicle rules, policies and practices
• Interacts professionally with employees, visitors and guests
• Other duties as assigned
Requirements Required Skill and Experience

• Registered nurse or higher certification preferred with field experience
• Previous seafood industry experience preferred but any maritime or remote medical work is highly desired.
• Ability to perform multiple tasks with minimal supervision
• Proven ability to work cooperatively within all levels of management to maintain a team like atmosphere
• Excellent organizational and communication skills required
• Prompt, reliable and predictable attendance is an essential function of the job
• Able to work well under pressure, 12 or more hours a day, 7 days a week
• Must be able to live and work in confined quarters in remote Alaska
• Successful completion of drug screen required
• Able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.


Work Schedule

• This is a seasonal position. Typical seasons can last for approximately months at a time

• Room, board and transportation to work location are provided
