Summary

  • Providing a stable computer network and other related systems including VoIP, switches, routers, firewalls, MPLS, and servers.
  • Minimizing client productivity loss caused by technology failures through maintenance of hardware and software.

Primary Duties

  • Evaluates and recommends new network design, hardware, and technology as part of a continuing refresh cycle
  • Plans and implements capacity upgrades for supported network infrastructure
  • Be available after hours for emergency calls/network outage
  • Develops and maintains technical documentation and procedures, as well as establish and recommend policies and standards on network configuration and services
  • Provide hands-on engineering support of the existing network infrastructure and technologies
  • Maintains directly, or supervises the maintenance of the various servers, network, computers, network printers/copiers, cables and other equipment that makes up the Agency’s computer system located at various sites. 
  • Maintains a log of server and network problems and unusual events.
  • Monitors and analyzes problems that occur in the computer network; identifies and solves problems as rapidly as possible.  Acts as primary contact for the computer hardware/software problems and network down emergencies.
  • Monitors performance, capacity, and availability of the network on an ongoing basis and recommend improvements in technologies and practices to improve these metrics
  • Performs regular backups of the servers and maintains a log of all failed backups.  Maintains the backup tapes and other backup media.  Assist office managers at various sites with backing up their systems including email and databases that exist at the remote sites.
  • Collaborates with the IT Director to communicate with and manage the work of  outside computer consultants or vendors in conjunction with the maintenance, upgrades or expansions of the various computer systems and their components.
  • Acts as coordinator of all in house requests for assistance, including those at the satellite locations; serves as primary contact for employees when they experience computer problems; provides technology support, i.e. troubleshoots, maintains, upgrades and provides solutions to complex hardware/software problems.
  • Installs new software applications and upgrades on to the network as needed.  Maintains master copies of all installation disks and original disks and a log of serial numbers and licenses.
  • Creates and maintains a map or other record of the locations of all network equipment, Main Distribution Facility (MDF), Independent Distribution Facilities (IDF), and other hardware.
  • Maintains master inventory in Asset Database including descriptions, serial numbers, warranty dates of all computer hardware.
  • Oversees network administration and security functions such as user identification privileges and passwords.
  • Works with and guides System Administrator to maintain servers.
  • Determines when inventory should be replaced and makes recommendations annually. 
  • Initiates and maintains effective working relationships with employees and management to ensure they receive proper service.

 

Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • Education and experience that includes computer-related courses of an information technology or computer science major, several years of computer experience, and at least one year of network administration experience.
  • Expert knowledge of and working experience with Network Operating Systems (Windows 2012-2016, CISCO), CISCO Routing/Switching/Voice, Remote Access Protocols, Office Suites
  • CCNP or CCNA certification.
  • Expert knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Office365, Active Directory, Hyper-V, Microsoft System Center and Virtual Machine Manager, Zerto
  • Knowledge of Azure, SharePoint and distributed applications are helpful.
  • Very effective oral and written communications skills sufficient to write training programs.
  • Organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple activities with changing priorities simultaneously.
  • Ability to train users regarding computer usage.
  • A commitment to team objectives and Didi Hirsch philosophies.
  •  Ability to adapt to changing needs by acquiring new skills and knowledge.
  • Ability to travel as needed to achieve Agency objectives; may be required to work evenings and weekends.
  • Current California driver’s license and a driving record acceptable to the Agency’s insurance carrier.
