Requirements

Your responsibilities will depend on the program to which you are assigned, but in most cases you will be part of a multidisciplinary treatment team. In this role you will:

  • Coordinate peer-led groups and individual peer counseling sessions.
  • Maintain documentation of all groups and individual counseling sessions, and ensure compliance with Didi Hirsch policies and procedures, contracts and other regulatory agencies.
  • Provide crisis intervention and facilitate conflict resolution among the program participants.
  • Lead peer run group-sponsored trips and social functions.
  • Develop and maintain peer advocate skills through seminars, workshops or other forms of training/education.
  • Consult with management before making decisions about programming and services.
  • Attend and actively participate in all team and staff meetings, community meetings and supervision/consultation.
  • Provide linkage, case management and advocacy services to clients.

To meet the basic qualification for this role, you will have legal authorization to work permanently in the United States for any employer without requiring a visa transfer or visa sponsorship. In addition, to be a good fit for the Peer Specialist opportunity, you will have:

  • Certification as peer specialist through the completion of a qualifying training program. 
  • Experience navigating the mental health system as a consumer, or lived experience in substance use/ addiction recovery or mental health.
  • A high school diploma or GED.
  • Working knowledge of peer social support services including peer led groups.
  • The ability to:
    • Learn and apply Didi Hirsch policies and procedures, HIPAA, policies and documentation guidelines, and county, state and federal regulations relating to service programs for individuals and families with a history of mental illness and/or substance use.
    • Support the values and mission of Didi Hirsch as related to employment.
  • Basic advocacy skills. 
  • Bilingual fluency in Spanish, Armenian or Farsi is required at some locations. 
  • The ability to utilize analysis, experience and judgment to make decisions within policies and practices.
  • Computer proficiency, including the ability to use the Microsoft Office suite and electronic health record (EHR) applications.
  • A current California driver's license, car insurance and a driving record acceptable to Didi Hirsch's insurance carrier.
