Position Summary

The temporary Food Service Manager is responsible for food service at our residential facility, ensuring the preparation and serving of nutritionally balanced meals in accordance with policies and procedures.

Primary Duties:

  • Develops menus, plans and inventories food to be ordered; orders food and supplies as needed.
  • Prepares/oversees food preparation and service in accordance with quality/quantity standards.
  • Supervises residents in food preparation and other kitchen skills that is a part of their in-house therapeutic program.
  • Assists counseling staff by performing informal counseling as necessary; provides support for counselors and house staff.
  • Plans and implements “cooking classes” or other activities as part of in-house program.
  • Performs basic supervisory duties including interviewing and hiring, training, assigning and reviewing work and scheduling.
Requirements

To perform effectively in this position, the employee in this position is required to have:

  • Food preparation experience in institutions
  • Menu planning skills
  • Basic supervisory skills
  • Effective people skills and ability to supervise client population
  • Working knowledge of health and nutrition requirements for special populations
  • Working knowledge of health and safety regulations associated with institutional cooking
  • Ability to support the values and mission of Didi Hirsch
  • Basic computer skills including word processing and ability to maintain routine records
  • Possess basic math skills sufficient to budget and monitor food costs
  • Present ideas, information, and viewpoints clearly, both verbally and in writing.
  • Utilize analysis, experience, and judgment to make good business decisions.
  • Adapt to changing needs by acquiring new skills and knowledge.
  • Current California driver’s license and a driving record acceptable to the Agency’s insurance carrier.
