Didi Hirsch is seeking a Nurse Practitioner for its Wellness program to ensure quality mental health care through teaching and consultation with therapeutic and support staff. Under the supervision of the Associate Medical Director, the Nurse Practitioner will provide medication supportive services to the clients associated with the Wellness Adjunct program, a part of the Adult Division. This position is based at our Sepulveda Center and the clients are between ages 18 and 60+. We strongly seek candidates that have a demonstrated interest in working with the persistently and severely mentally ill population in a community mental health setting.


  • In collaboration with the Medical Director and Nursing Administrator, develops confirms and maintains nurse practitioner protocols for the care of patients in Family and Adult Divisions.
  • Develops and maintains a patient load of size and complexity commensurate with licensure, experience and agency needs according to protocol.
  • Sees patients as needed regarding medication evaluation, furnishing medications and monitoring, injections and otherwise as needed.
  • Originates and maintains a Nursing office on site and staffs open clinic hours as assigned or as needed.
  • Provides psychoeducation about medications and illness management in group therapy and community outreach settings as assigned.
  • Attends treatment team meetings as assigned, providing consultation on medical issues.
  • May direct receipt, handling, storage, dispensing and tracking of meds including samples.
  • Assists in refilling medications as needed as well as provides TB testing to clients and staff as needed.
  • Directs, and provides training in, infection control and provides staff and patient education on an ad hoc basis.
  • Receives, reviews and responds as appropriate to calls regarding medical or medication issues according to protocol.
  • Provides liaison to pharmacy providers and to laboratory providers including reviewing lab reports.
  • Assists the Program Director and Medical Director in preparing for audits.

Required Qualifications:

  • Completion of an approved Master’s level Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Program required; completion of a post master’s specialty certificate in psychiatric/mental health nursing strongly desired.
  • Completion of a State of California Board of Registered Nursing approved pharmacology course and a minimum of 520 hours of psychiatrist supervised experience in “furnishing” drugs and/or devices in not less than six months and not more than 12 months.
  • Licenses and certification should consist of currently licensed by the State of California Board of Registered Nursing as a Registered Nurse; currently certified by the State of California as a Nurse Practitioner; possession of a Furnishing Number approved by the State of California Board of Registered Nursing, with advanced pharmacology courses and training
  • Possession of a DEA Number.
  • Obtaining an Adult or Family Psychiatric and Mental Health Nurse Practitioner national certification from American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) is strongly desired.
  • Eligibility for furnishing Schedule II narcotics (these include psychostimulants) and LPS Designation also required.
  • Must have a minimum of 3 years experience preferred, inpatient, outpatient (or both) with adolescents and adults.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and possession of the ability to respond quickly and professionally in crisis situations
  • Demonstrate solid psychiatric diagnostic skills.
  • Possess a broad knowledge of current psychopharmacology skills and an ability to respond quickly and professionally in crisis situations.
  • Some knowledge of the managed care process, including third party payment and working pharmacies, as well as the ability to function as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Proven desired to work within community mental health.
  • Acceptable driving record that would meet the agency's insurance carrier's requirements.
