Summary

Under the guidance of the VP of Quality and Innovation, supports the Agency’s strategic initiatives through management of government, corporate, and foundation grants as well as internal special projects   

Primary Duties

·         Manages agency foundation and government grants portfolio. 

·         Researches viable prospective private and government funding sources and develops a data base of funding opportunities that are in alignment with Agency priorities.

·         Develops relationships with foundations and grant officers.

·         Writes and submits competitive, concise, and persuasive proposals and progress reports, and works well collaboratively with other departments to ensure accuracy

·         Implements a software tracking system and provides grant tracking and stewardship in collaboration with the Finance Department staff.

·         In collaboration with Clinical, Medical, and Research & Evaluation departments, formulates grant goals and objectives, develops resources to achieve them and tracks deliverables throughout the grant cycle.

·         With the VP of Quality and Innovation, coordinates kick-off meetings upon receipt of grant awards; then coordinates quarterly review meetings with relevant internal stakeholders to assess progress on active grant projects and make necessary adjustments 

·         After working with the Executive Team to assess and set priorities, develops an Annual Grant/Foundation plan and timeline; meets regularly with VP of Quality and Innovation to re-assess and revise priorities/plan (as any new or emergent needs arise) and report on progress toward goals.

·         Prepares monthly management reports outlining funding outreach and progress toward Grant/Foundation goals

·         Stays abreast of developments and tracks trends in the world of philanthropy and grant-writing 

·         Supports special projects and events, including the preparation of written materials, as needed.                           

Requirements

Required Qualifications

To perform effectively in this position, the employee in this position is required to have:

·         Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Communications, Marketing or other related discipline.

·         Experience with federal grant making processes required.

·         Advanced knowledge of general development practices in a nonprofit environment, preferably including experience in an organization providing direct human services.

·         Advanced knowledge of the competitive grant funding process, as demonstrated by experience with identifying and writing successful private and government grant proposals.

·         Very effective oral and written communication skills; superior writing skills including editing for content, style and grammar.

·         A working knowledge of how to develop long-term relationships with foundations and representatives of companies that might provide support.

·         Strong personal computer skills including preparation of spreadsheets, word processing and presentation software.  Experience with grant tracking software is preferred.

·         Very strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

·         Strong management of multiple competing demands as they arise.

·         Flexibility and ability to adapt to changing priorities and needs. 

·         Openness to feedback on technical and stylistic writing skills.

·         The analytical skills, experience and good judgment to make decisions relative to grant opportunities.

·         A commitment to team objectives and Didi Hirsch philosophies.

·         Interest and knowledge of the communities of Los Angeles.

·         Current California driver’s license and a driving record acceptable to the Agency’s insurance carrier.

These requirements are typically met by a combination of education and experience that includes an undergraduate degree in English or related topic.
