Description Job Summary: (includes but is not limited to the following, other duties may be assigned):

Calpine’s Technical Services group provides engineering and support for the world’s largest operating geothermal field, The Geysers in Northern California. The Electrical Program Manager/Engineer will be responsible for providing engineering services to support safe, economic and highly reliable Operations at the Geysers. This position will act as a subject matter expert to implement Calpine Engineering standards and programs as well as provide outage support, electrical upgrade management, guidance on testing and maintenance practices. The Electrical Program Manager/Engineer will be a technical liaison between the plants and Calpine Engineering as well as technical leadership to both internal and external entities. The position will also entail acting as the technical lead for external electrical test and maintenance contractors on equipment such as transformers, switchyard equipment, AVR systems and relays, motor controls and protection scheme circuitry testing.

Job Responsibilities:

In this unique geothermal environment, the Electrical Program Manager/Engineer will:
• Develop and implement plant/fleet programs that improve operational efficiency, reliability, and availability.
• Develop standards to optimize plant electrical system and equipment operation
• Coordinate with other departments within the Engineering Group to achieve comprehensive plant/fleet engineering support.
• Interface with OEM’s, Utilities, Architectural Engineering Firms, contractors, and regulatory agencies.
• Provide input to contractual documents, scopes of work, and technical requirements.
• Utilize their strong electrical studies and analytics background.
Requirements • Minimum Degree - B.S.E.E. or equivalent
• Minimum Experience – demonstrated 5+ years in power engineering including generation, transmission and/or distribution engineering. Additional experience is a definite plus.
• Has electrical studies and analytics background.
• Has worked safely in high voltage location and potentially hazardous environments within a power plant.
• Has read and designed One-lines, Three-Lines, AC/DC Schematics, and Wiring Diagrams.
• Has managed contractors or internal employees at some level on projects.
• Has written, reviewed, and checked Specifications, Proposals, Quotes, Contracts, Purchase Orders, and other relevant project documents.
• Has demonstrated the ability to work as a technical lead in an autonomous role.
• Is aware of common maintenance and testing procedures for electrical protection and HV/MV/LV electrical systems in general.
• Strong, supervisory technical and leadership skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Knowledge of NERC regulatory standards is a plus.
• Computer literate minimum requirements – Microsoft Suite.
• Experience with AutoCAD, OEM AVR Software, OEM Relay Software, OEM PLC Software and/or ETAP, SKM, ASPEN software is a plus.
