Description Description of Role

• Lead analysis of value and risk trends and attributes of a regional portfolio.
• Execute risk reporting processes to produce vital information needed by commercial decision-makers:
o Daily MTM and P&L estimates
o Daily positions by commodity, location, portfolio, and time period
o Current month performance information
o Ad hoc assessments of risk factors and potential hedging strategies
• Become go-to person for traders, originators, accounting staff, and management to answer questions about regional portfolio positions, changes, and risk factors.
• Drive select projects to build (or overhaul) analytical tools and reports to create and distribute market risk information to various users within Calpine.
• Take point with IT organization on projects to improve the underlying risk system infrastructure (models, calculations, data flows, reports, etc.); includes supporting the upcoming ETRM replacement effort.
• Position reports to Director, Market Risk Analysis (location: Houston, TX).

Requirements Relevant Skills and Experience

• Candidates should have significant experience in power sector valuation and risk analysis. Knowledge base should cover a subset of the following:
o Power plant and related product modeling approaches
o ETRM systems generally and Nucleus and/or Allegro specifically
o Power and gas markets
o Power plant operations
• Displays strong analytical aptitude with high degree of attention to detail.
• Strong model-building skills; experienced with analytical and data manipulation applications.
• Project-based or team management experience; track record should show ability to effectively manage others.
• Strong orientation toward designing efficient and reliable processes.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills. Customer service oriented.
• Strong presentation skills (including familiarity with PowerPoint).

Qualifications

• Attractive qualifications include degrees in quantitative fields such as math, computational science, statistics, engineering, economics, or finance.
• Additional risk-analysis-oriented certifications such as FRM are a plus.
