Description Job Summary: (includes but is not limited to the following, other duties may be assigned):

The Accounting Specialist serves as subject Matter Expert (SME) in assigned area of responsibility and provides technical advice/counsel to others and is required to work collaboratively within department and with cross functional teams as part of day to day activities. Reporting to the Accounting Manager, the Accounting Specialist – Fuel Settlements is responsible for execution and review of accounting activities and functions related to fuel procurement, pipeline and storage activities. This includes gas pipeline actualization and balancing, fuel (natural gas and fuel oil) supply settlements and payment approval, monthly and quarterly close responsibilities, creation and review of management cost schedules and analyses, account reconciliations, and supporting other projects and reporting needs as needed. The Accounting Specialist is also required to collaborate closely with commercial operations, middle office risk, and other accounting groups as part of day-to-day activities.

Duties & Responsibilities
• Execute processes and procedures to comply with monthly financial statement close deadlines
• Review and approve monthly commodity entries for the purchase and sale of natural gas and fuel oil ensuring appropriate support documentation
• Review and approve monthly fuel commodity supply and transportation invoices and wire payments
• Execute and assist in monthly pipeline actualization activities
• Prepare monthly reports for Regulatory and Compliance reporting
• Prepare monthly management reports and analyses associated with fuel commodity activities
• Prepare and review compliance and support documentation for internal control and review purposes, including SOX 404 compliance requirements
• Review and interpret commodity contracts and trades to ensure the accuracy of accounting transactions and translation in the ETRM system
• Facilitate special projects requirements
• Interaction with other Commodity Accounting groups, Trading/Scheduling, Risk and Financial Planning & Analysis to resolve general ledger reconciliation and presentation issues, and review monthly profit/loss margin reconciliations and variance explanations
• Create/improve processes and provide assistance to other personnel as necessary for the timely and accurate completion of group duties
• Ability to comprehend process automation and integration including advancing system design and implementation
• Must have strong communication and interpersonal skills. The ability to operate in a team environment is critical
Requirements Strong analytical and computer skills are required.
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting preferred.
• Minimum of 5 – 7 years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
• Ability to comprehend process automation and integration as well as lead system design and implementation projects.
• In-depth knowledge of physical gas markets and settlements, fuel oil a plus
• In-depth knowledge of gas pipeline actualization
• Experience with Peoplesoft ERM and Allegro ETRM preferred but not required
• Strong analytical and technical MS Office suite skills preferred
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with significant deadline.
• Must be able to work longer hours at various times during the year to meet deadlines and job requirements.
