Description Job Summary: (includes but is not limited to the following, other duties may be assigned):
Responsible for managing analytical efforts to inform Calpine’s view of locational market pricing across all ISOs in which Calpine operates. Manages team of Transmission Analysts and provides oversight to developing Calpine’s FTR and CRR analysis and trading strategy. Responsibilities include developing in-house software algorithms to support FTR and CRR analytics, formulating and recommending strategies to Management on maximizing portfolio value based on portfolio position, portfolio risk, pre- and post-market analysis and market view.
Lead and ensure high performance of Calpine’s Transmission Analysis function, which is responsible for producing the following critical business information:
o Market price impacts of various physical grid issues (nodal price modeling)
o FTR/CRR/TCC hedging alternatives and pricing methods
o Physical transmission grid status and capabilities
• Support Calpine’s effort to optimize its existing fleet and to expand its asset footprint via plant expansions and new plant development
o Contribute technical data and analysis for interconnection filings and studies
o Interact with regulatory officials regarding interconnection issues and studies
o Study potential new development locations and their appeal from an economic perspective
• Present insight on transmission-related topics to various users within Calpine, including members of origination and development, trading desks, plant operations personnel, risk management, and senior management, among others.
• Facilitate/improve process integration with groups that rely on transmission-related information, such as other analytical functions, development, and accounting.
• Support other analytical and managerial efforts as needed within and beyond Commercial Analytics.
• Position reports to VP of Commercial Analytics within the Commercial organization and is responsible for managing a small team of professionals (location: Houston, TX).

Job Responsibilities:
· Manages multiple department functions with an operational focus.
· Manages activities of broad functional area through first level management and professionals, including full human resources, cost and budgetary accountability.
· Decisions typically related to implementation of department strategy, intradepartmental coordination, and business outcomes.
· Results have significant impact on costs and achievement of department objectives.
· Identifies opportunities which make a significant difference to the performance of multiple department functions and possibly organization-wide impact.
· Makes decisions for large-scale projects, a closely related set of projects and/or initiatives involving multiple functional areas.
· Establishes operational objectives for multiple functions including work plans and delegating assignments to subordinate managers and senior professionals.
· Works within broad guidelines; applies advanced technical knowledge of multiple functions to solve complex problems which may have long-term impact on the department.
· Regularly uses strong analytical and problem solving skills, including addressing problems with minimal precedent including data challenges.
· Manages multiple functions within a department with responsibility for results in terms of costs, methods and employees.
· Responsible for performance reviews, promotional decisions, and pay actions for top professionals and management.

Requirements · Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Mathematics, Applied Statistics, Accounting, Economics or equivalent. Advanced degree in Engineering is preferred.
· Previous management experience.
· Typically requires 10+ years in area of electrical transmission analysis specialization including experience analyzing and acquiring FTRs and CRRs, and experience analyzing and forecasting transmission congestion and the related pricing impacts both day-ahead and real-time.
· Knowledge base should be far-ranging and should cover:
o Electrical grid physics
o Electricity market structures, dynamics, and rules; FTR, CRR, and TCC structures
o Power plant operations
o Load flow and nodal price modeling software platforms (such as PSLF, PSSE, PROMOD, UPLAN, Dayzer, etc.) and associated data structures
· Comfortable with the IT aspects of transmission modeling; skilled with analytical applications such as Excel, SQL, Visual Basic, R, SAS, C#, and other programming languages.
· Project-based or team management experience; track record should clearly demonstrate the ability to develop people and drive teams at high levels of performance.
· Strong orientation toward designing efficient and reliable processes is required; should be able to demonstrate success managing and improving complex processes.
· Executive presentation experience.
· Background and understanding of ISO market structure and energy commodities.
· Additional risk-analysis-oriented certifications such as FRM are a plus.
