Description The Director of Partnerships at Alder GSE will bring exceptional leadership, collaboration, relationship building, project management and execution to further establish Alder as a superb teacher training and academic institution. The Director will work closely with the CEO of Alder to initiate and develop strong relationships with partner K12 school systems in California, to formalize these partnerships, and to codify the tools and best practices of this work. With partner K12 school systems (both district and charter), the Director of Partnerships will help design and iterate on how to recruit a diverse teaching force, develop excellent new teachers, support the best mentor teachers and ultimately create sophisticated, finely tuned teaching talent pathways. As part of a small team in a new GSE, the Director of Partnerships should expect that other responsibilities not yet identified here will arise that will be important to supporting Alder’s mission and vision. Location: Based in Los Angeles or Bay Area and will include travel.

Reporting to the CEO and working closely with her to support the vision, mission and core values of Alder GSE, the essential responsibilities of the Director of Partnerships include:
1. In conjunction with the CEO of Alder, help develop Alder’s partnership model
2. Write /develop tools and templates that serve to capture lessons learned and that can be built on and improved each year to systematize and operationalize Alder’s partnership model
3. Develop strong, personal relationships and a solid reputation with a variety of K12 school system leaders including superintendents, boards, union leaders, principals, mentor teachers and community leaders
4. Bring an equity lens and commitment to diversity and inclusion
5. Facilitate meetings over the course of the year that result in buy in and a mutually agreed upon, formal Memorandum of Understanding with the leaders of K12 school systems
6. Codify the tools and best practices of working in close partnership with these systems
7. Serve as a thought partner with the CEO
8. Help brainstorm and pilot one or two variations on the cohort model that is established at Alder so that Alder can serve smaller K12 school systems
9. Support Operations Team to ensure collaborative recruiting practices and data analysis between Alder and partners
10. Potentially train and supervise or collaborate with other Directors of Partnership in other regions as the partnership function grows
11. Serve as an excellent colleague to others on the team at Alder
12. Remain competent and current through self-directed professional reading, developing professional contacts, attending professional meetings
13. Perform other related duties as required and assigned.


1) Required knowledge, skills & abilities:
• Experience and demonstrated success leading at a high level in a K12 system – ideally at superintendent level; must have led as a principal
• Deep understanding of K12 school systems – ideally both district and charter systems, serving high needs students
• Capacity to interact effectively with culturally, ethnically and economically diverse groups
• Interest and strong ability to engage others and create a climate that seeks and values diversity, equity and inclusion
• Capacity to partner, communicate and collaborate across a wide variety of people and roles
• Expertise in facilitating excellent meetings where people’s voices are heard, disagreement is possible and respectful and where work gets done on schedule
• Track record of developing and documenting systems and processes that capture and build on best practices and that can be iterated and improved
• Strong organizational skills and detail orientation
• Spirit of both getting things done and always seeking to improve what is done
• Entrepreneurial with a track record of succeeding in challenging, fast-paced environments; can operate amidst ambiguity; adjusts quickly to changing priorities and conditions; copes effectively with complexity and change
• Believes that education transforms lives and that every student deserves the opportunity to go to college
• Passion for graduate schools of education and their communities
• Enthusiasm for Alder’s mission and vision

2) Minimum educational level:
• Master’s degree required
• PhD or EdD encouraged and preferred

3) Experience required:
• 15 years or more of experience and success as an education leader
