||GENERAL SUMMARY: Support the coordination of a school site mental health program designed to support students (in general and special education) who exhibit the most challenging behaviors to develop pro-social behaviors and coping skills. Serve as a coach
to school personnel and parents regarding behavior interventions. Oversee the professional development for staff regarding behavior and social-emotional skills and coordinate the provision of services. Assist in the development and implementation of behavior
intervention plans/services for eligible students. Collaborate with school-site leadership to evaluate the effectiveness of the program and to make needed adjustments.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Provide support to teachers (Education Specialists and General Education teachers) through: modeling, observing, coaching, and planning.
* Write, implement and progress monitor behavior intervention plans in accordance with the IDEA.
* Attend trainings and be the “trainer of trainers” for specific behavior interventions and preventative strategies/techniques, and Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA’s.)
* Provide direct behavioral intervention/modification for students that decreases engagement in disruptive, harmful or negative behaviors and increases engagement in positive replacement behaviors as appropriate.
* Communicate regularly with parents of students to discuss positive supports and appropriate sanctions and restoration activities.
* Ensure the use of best practices in the implementation of pre-referral behavioral interventions, positive behavioral interventions as outlined in the IEP, and implementation of behavioral support and intervention plans of general education students by collaborating
with school psychologists, other specialists or site staff
* Participates in professional development, provides training and support to Special Ed Team to enhance instruction for students with social communication, behavioral and learning challenges
* Participate in the designing and redesigning of the Aspire school’s social/emotional and behavioral supports for students at the highest level of need.
* Cross-collaborate with outside agencies.
* Knowledge of, and ability to implement, de-escalation techniques.
* Knowledge of child guidance principles and practices, especially as they relate to students with learning disabilities, development delays, and autistic-like behaviors, and emotional disorders.
* Ability to support IEP teams with the implementation of systems to track student behavioral data and monitor progress towards goals.
* Attend IEP meetings to report on behavioral progress, and make recommendations for the current IEP.
* Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
* Ability to handle emotionally charged situations through use of problem-solving and mediation techniques.
* Ability to maintain confidentiality.
* Ability to Demonstrate knowledge of, and support, Aspire Public Schools mission, vision, value statements, standards, policies and procedures, operating instructions, confidentiality standards, and the code of ethical behavior.
||1) Required knowledge, skills & abilities:
* Knowledge of child cognitive development and different learning styles.
* Ability and willingness to implement Behavior Intervention Plans
* Ability and willingness to reflect and improve.
* Flexibility and ability to adapt to changing conditions; ability and good judgment to take initiative to modify activities.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to collaborate with general education and special education colleagues, parents and community.
* General/Special Education Experience.
* Ability to work independently as a self-starter in a new organization.
* Ability to excel as a member of a team.
* Ability to work with an ethnically and economically diverse student body.
* Desire to work with a variety of populations of students with behavior needs.
* 2 to 3 years demonstrated in effective instructional practice/student management.
2) Minimum educational level:
* Master’s Degree in Education, Special Education Counseling or Psychology desired
* CA Teaching Credential (Multiple Subject, Single Subject or Education Specialist) or PPS credential required
* NCLB Highly Qualified required.
* Bachelor’s Degree required
3) Experience required:
* 5 + years working with students in a special education or mental health setting
* Trained in district approved positive behavioral strategies used to prevent and deescalate behavior
* Maintain training in Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) positive behavioral strategies used to prevent and deescalate behavior by attending refresher courses within the designated timeframe
* CPI/ProAct certification desired
* CA Administrative Services Credential desired
* Bilingual desired
