Description GENERAL SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the Special Education Program Administrator, the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) Teacher will provide quality education to deaf and hard of hearing students, starting at the preschool age through high school. The DHH Teacher will play an integral role as a member of the SPED team and will participate in team planning and the implementation of student programs. This position will focus on strong student teacher parent linkage and will help examine the use of adaptive technology with students.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Prepare IEP’s in consultation with parents and other IEP contributors; attend IEP meetings
• Design instruction and record progress of student IEP goals and academic progress
• Collaborate with parents and outside providers as necessary to implement and support IEP goals
• Consult with Special Education and regular education staff to aid in support of DHH students
• Focus attention on communication and social skill development with the DHH students
• Build strong relationships with outside agencies as well as collaborate on interagency cooperation
• Build and maintain a strong vocational education component to the work with the students, focusing on integration with non-handicap populations
• Support the mission, vision, and core values of Aspire Public Schools
• Perform other related duties as required and assigned
Requirements 1) Required knowledge, skills & abilities:
• Proficient in American Sign Language (ASL)
• Ability to function as a member of a team
• Strong behavior management and positive discipline skills
• Ability to build strong rapport with parents and families
• Knowledge of assessment methods and materials for the deaf

2) Minimum educational level:
• Bachelors Degree
• Valid CA Deaf and Hard of Hearing Credential
• Masters Degree in Special Education or related field


3) Experience required:
• Prior experience working with Deaf and Hard of Hearing students in an education setting
Notes NOTE: This position is for 1 day a week, with the possibility of increasing. It will involve travel between our Richmond and Oakland school sites.
