Description Alder Graduate School of Education is a not-for-profit organization that has grown out of a six year pilot program in Aspire Public Schools. Aspire Public Schools operates 40 high-performing, college-preparatory public charter schools serving 16,000 students in underserved communities across California and Memphis, Tennessee. Currently in its 19th academic year, Aspire is one of the nation’s largest open-enrollment K-12 public charter school systems serving predominantly low-income students and delivering a rigorous College for Certain education.

Through a partnership with the University of the Pacific, Alder Graduate School of Education has trained and developed over 200 new teachers through a one-year apprenticeship model (the Aspire Teacher Residency). This teacher preparation model results in graduates with masters and teaching credentials and deep, classroom-based training who are tremendously effective as first year teachers and beyond, are staying in the classroom at higher rates than teachers prepared via traditional pathways, and are more demographically representative of the communities we serve.

Course Instructor: SPED 228M – Advanced Programming


GENERAL SUMMARY:

SPED 228m (3 units) – Advanced Programming
This is a ‘hybrid’ course taught in three distinct chunks:
2-3 sessions taught during Spring (most likely as online module)
Two full day in-person sessions at the University of the Pacific from January 25-26 (travel and hotel provided if coming from outside Central Valley)
Two full day in-person sessions at the University of the Pacific from May 11-12 (travel and hotel provided if coming from outside Central Valley)

Pay is $1,400 per unit for instructor with doctoral degree; $1,300 per unit for instructor with Master’s degree.

If selected for this position, you will be recommended for appointment to the University of the Pacific and upon appointment will be required to complete the Pacific hiring process.

Requirements QUALIFICATIONS:

1) Required knowledge, skills & abilities:
Candidates must be a master of the content area.
Candidates must be skillful in curriculum design by setting and communicating course goals and objectives
Candidates must be able to design assignments to practice, and assessments to measure mastery of course goals and objectives complete with clear criteria and or rubrics.
Candidates must demonstrate an ability to foster community and build relationships in an online environment.
Candidates must be able to navigate a wide range of written communication (emails, discussion boards, written assignments) and provide prompt feedback and regular communication.

2) Minimum educational level:
Doctoral level degree preferred. Master’s level degree also accepted

3) Experience required:
Proven success of 5+ years teaching in the K-12 classroom
